As part of external evaluation conducted with the aim of renewing membership in the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), from 3rd-6th October 2016 the Agency for Science and Higher Education hosted an international panel of experts chaired by Professor Jürgen Kohler, PhD, professor of law at Greifswald University and a former president of the German Accreditation Council, the central body governing external quality assurance in higher education in Germany.

During the visit, the panel conducted a number of meetings with stakeholders in the system of higher education and ASHE representatives in order to supplement the information from the Self-Evaluation and other relevant documents and establish ASHE’s compliance with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area, ESG.

Especially important is the standard related to ASHE’s independence in carrying out its activities and issuing final decisions on the outcomes of evaluation procedures. The review also verified the adequacy of Agency’s physical, financial and human resources. ASHE also had to prove that it meets the standards relating to the external evaluation process, that this process also takes into account standards relating to internal quality assurance conducted by higher education institutions, etc.
