The Agency for Science and Higher Education and Croatian Euroguidance (Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes) conducted in 2016 a survey on the work of guidance servicesand career counselling at higher education institutions.

The survey aims to encourage capacity building in HEI career centres, as set out in the Strategy of Lifelong Guidance and Career Development 2016–2020.

The survey showed that slightly less than half of higher education institutions that completed the survey have established vocational guidance units, which generally employ psychologists or similar professions relevant for the scientific and technical field of a higher education institution. Their employees have expressed the need for training in individual and group work, the development of career management skills in users/customers, providing information to customers about the opportunities within the higher education system and the labour market, the development of a business model of vocational guidance units, the models for the establishment of collaboration with stakeholders in the system of education and economy, etc. They also expressed the need to enhance partnerships with other stakeholders within the system to exchange good practices with other higher education institutions in Croatia and abroad.

Higher education institutions that recognized the need for the development of guidance services should be encouraged in their efforts and assisted in their activities.
