Scientific field committees take part in the appointment procedure and make the final decision on the appointment of researchers to scientific grades. The Committees are comprised out of Croatian academics who are appointed to a 4-year term by the National Council for Science. The Committees are:

- Scientific field committee for history, art history, art science, archaeology, ethnology and anthropology 

- Scientific field committee for philology

- Scientific field committee for philosophy and theology 

- Scientific field committee for psychology 

- Scientific field committee for law

- Scientific field committee for  political science, sociology, demography, social works and security and defence sciences 

- Scientific field committee for pedagogy, educational and rehabilitation sciences, logopaedy and kinesiology  

- Scientific field committee  for informational and communicational sciences  

- Scientific field committee for economics 

- Scientific field committee for agricultural sciences, forestry, wood technology, biotechnology and food technology  

- Scientific field committee for veterinary medicine - Scientific field committee for basic medical sciences, clinical medical sciences, public health and health care, dental medicine and pharmacology  

-  Scientific field committee for architecture, urbanism, geodesy and civil engineering 

-  Scientific field committee for electrical engineering and computing 

-  Scientific field committee for mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, traffic and transport technology, aeronautics, rocket and space technology
