An online workshop within the EPER (Effective partnership for enhanced recognition) project on the topic of current trends in the field of academic recognition of foreign educational qualifications was held on 21 September 2020.

The EPER project is co-financed with the support of the European Union's Erasmus+ programme – Key Action 3/KA3/ - Support for policy reform. The project holder is the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia and partner countries are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia. The aim of the project is to enhance recognition procedures and practices in partner countries and strengthen capacities for the implementation of the Lisbon Recognition Convention as well as regional cooperation through the exchange of experiences and good practice between partners from South-Eastern Europe.

Examples of good practice and challenges regarding current trends in the field of academic recognition of foreign educational qualifications were presented at the workshop by representatives of the University of Ljubljana, the University of Rijeka and the Centre for Information and Recognition of Qualifications in Higher Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina (CIP), one of the partner countries. Representatives of the Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education gave a presentation on the external quality assurance in higher education in the context of academic recognition, i.e. its quality implementation at higher education institutions.

Some of the main goals of the workshop included the provision of the newest information regarding the development of policies and practices concerning the recognition of foreign educational qualifications for the needs of study continuation, and the creation of space for a discussion with representatives of higher education institutions and ENIC/NARIC offices from partner countries. The workshop was intended for representatives of higher education institutions and authorities competent for the recognition of foreign educational qualifications.
