{"id":1043,"date":"2010-10-20T12:17:11","date_gmt":"2010-10-20T10:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/azvo.borealis.biz\/newsa\/us-announced-a-bill-to-stop-diploma-selling-diploma-mills\/"},"modified":"2023-11-03T08:31:16","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T07:31:16","slug":"us-announced-a-bill-to-stop-diploma-selling-diploma-mills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azvo.hr\/en\/2010\/10\/20\/us-announced-a-bill-to-stop-diploma-selling-diploma-mills\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. announced a bill to stop \u201cdiploma selling\u201d (diploma mills)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-10 text-base leading-normal\">\n  \nBuying  fake degrees and their usage in employment as well as achieving  particular rights on the basis of such degrees is a considerable problem  in many countries but only a few of them made legal provisions for  protective measures.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-10 text-base leading-normal\">\n  \nThe  largest number of companies which sell such degrees (diploma mills)  operate on the United States territory where the investigation revealed  that more than 400 federal employees held degrees from unaccredited  institutions and whereupon this problem came into focus again.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-10 text-base leading-normal\">\n  \nAt  the press conference held on 27 January 2010 in Washington, D.C. during  the Council for Higher Education Accreditation&#8217;s annual conference,  U.S. congressman Tim Bishop announced a bill (<a href=\"javascript:iSite_WindowOpen('http:\/\/www.chea.org\/pdf\/Diploma%20Mill%20Final%20Draft.pdf','_blank','width=1430,left=0,height=830,top=0,toolbar=1,menubar=1,location=1,status=1,resizable=1,scrollbars=1');\">Diploma and Accreditation Integrity Protection Act<\/a>)  that would define the meaning of accredited institutions as well as  \u201cdiploma mills\u201d and measures which could be taken against such  institutions.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-10 text-base leading-normal\">\n  \nMore than 300 participants from 32 countries met  at the CHEA annual conference to hear leaders from government, U.S. and  international higher education institutions, accrediting organizations  and higher education associations address a range of issues including  accreditation, quality assurance and accountability; combating degree  mills and accreditation mills; and quality assurance practices in  countries around the world.
